A highly regarded force consisting of the best and bravest members of the Guard, the  carried out secret missions on behalf of the government. They were also distinguished from the rest of the Guard by their , which was made to be more flexible and battle ready than the ornamental uniforms of their rank-and-file counterparts.

During the ,  Faro Argyus, an officer of the Senate Commandos, betrayed the Republic by assisting the Separatists with the rescue of Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray. By the end of the war, the Senate Guard was phased out and replaced by the Imperial Royal Guard of Emperor Palpatine.
